Definition

The body of the presphenoid bone is the middle and central portion of this bone. It articulates caudally with the body of the basisphenoid bone, and its cranial end is partially hidden by the vomer.

On its endocranial surface is a transverse depression that houses the optic chiasm; this is the chiasmatic groove. It extends on each side into the optic canal. Caudal to this groove is the sphenoidal jugum.
