Frontal sinuses

Sinus frontales

Definition

In Bulls, the frontal sinuses are settled in three independent sets of cavities: the caudal frontal sinus and the three rostral frontal sinuses (medial, intermediate and lateral). v

The Septum of the frontal sinuses are a set of bony walls that separate the three rostral frontal sinuses:

-The septum of the vault separates rostral and middle compartments of the caudal frontal sinus. It is vertical and has only one opening. It extends obliquely from the mediofrontal septum (or median interfrontal septum), eight or ten centimeters rostrally to the intercornual protuberance, passes by the supraorbital canal, (that is lodged within its thickness) and ends at the lateral third of the supra-orbital border.

-The transverse interfrontal septum separates the rostral frontal sinus from the caudal frontal sinus (its rostral compartment). It is hardly oblique in mediocaudal direction, begins near the medial extremity of the supra-orbital border and extends until the median interfrontal septum.

-The median interfrontal septum (Septum medianum sinuum frontalium) separates completely the left frontal sinuses from the right frontal sinuses.
