Ligament of the conus
Ligamentum coni
Definition
The ligament of the conus (ligamentum coni arteriosi) in the heart is a short mass of collagenous tissue that extends between the aortic fibrous ring and the pulmonary fibrous ring. It forms part of the fibrous skeleton and provides a structural connection between the outflow tracts of the left and right ventricles.
This ligament contributes to the mechanical stability of the cardiac base and helps maintain the spatial relationship between the aorta and pulmonary trunk, while also serving as a supportive structure for adjacent myocardial and valvular components.
