Supraorbital margin

Margo supraorbitalis

Definition

Mayla Alcobaça, Andréa Lopes da Costa

The supraorbital margin forms the superior part of the orbital margin. It is composed of the frontal and lacrimal bones and extends to the rostral and caudal lacrimal processes.

Variation:

In ruminants, this margin is formed by the frontal process of the zygomatic bone, which articulates with the zygomatic process of the frontal bone.

In equids, the supraorbital margin is formed by the zygomatic processes of the frontal and temporal bones.

In carnivores and pigs, the frontal process of the zygomatic bone is connected to the zygomatic process of the frontal bone by the orbital ligament.
