The tendinous intersections of the rectus abdominis muscle are fibrous transverse bands that segment the muscle longitudinally. These structures are composed of dense connective tissue. Their number varies depending on the species:

Carnivores: 5 (+/-1)

Equids: 10

Ungulates: 5

Suidae: 8 to 10

Leporidae: 6
