Ventral orbital crest
Crista orbitalis ventralis
Definition
The ventral wall or floor of the orbit (Paries ventralis) has a very different constitution according to the species. It is formed by on more or less broad extend by the zygomatic bone, that the lacimal and bone completes rostrally and by the caudal extremity of the maxilla, caudally, in Bulls, Cats, Rabbits.
In Bulls and to a smaller degree in small Ruminants, it is partially formed by the lacrimal bulla (Bulla lacrimalis), that reaches an enormous development in Bulls.
On the medial side, this surface is virtual on the dry skeleton and its limit is only under the medial wall by the ventral orbital crest (Crista orbitalis ventralis) of the frontal bone.
