Vestibule of right atrioventricular valve

Vestibulum valvae atrioventricularis dextrae

  • Latin synonym: Vestibulum valvae tricuspidalis
  • Synonym: Vestibule of tricuspid valve

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The vestibule of the right atrioventricular valve refers to the region of the right atrium immediately adjacent to the tricuspid valve annulus, forming the atrial outlet that leads into the right ventricle.

The vestibule of the right atrioventricular valve is bounded superiorly by the right atrial appendage, laterally by the free wall of the right atrium, and medially by the interatrial septum.

The vestibule is characterized by a relatively thin myocardial layer, with a substantial epicardial fat layer, especially along the anterior and inferior aspects near the tricuspid annulus. The wall thickness and adipose tissue are greatest near the annulus and decrease toward the orifice of the right atrial appendage.
