Cardiac impression
Impressio cardiaca
Definition
The cardiac impression is a normal anatomical depression located on the mediastinal surface of each lung, corresponding to the area of direct contact between the heart, the pericardium, and the pulmonary parenchyma. Generally situated between the 3rd and 6th ribs, this impression is more pronounced on the left lung than on the right and extends to the ventral border of the lung, where it forms a notch known as the cardiac notch.
