Definition

Felipe Barona Lopez

The cartilage of the third eyelid is a T-shaped structure that reinforces the edge of the third eyelid. The base of the T-shaped cartilage is covered by the glandula superficialis of the third eyelid and is oriented towards the back of the orbit.

This cartilage is pushed outwards by the orbital fat body, when the eyeball retracts into the orbit, causing the third eyelid to cover the cornea.
