Duodenocolic fold
Plica duodenocolica
Definition
The duodenocolic fold is a peritoneal fold that connects the ascending duodenum to the descending colon ((Mesocolon descendens in carnivores). It often contains the duodenocolic ligament, which may be a condensation of connective tissue within the fold. This structure helps to maintain the relative positioning of these intestinal segments in the abdominal cavity and may serve as a landmark during surgical or anatomical dissection.
