Hepatorenal ligament
Ligamentum hepatorenale
Definition
The hepatorenal ligament is a fold of peritoneum that extends between the caudate process on the visceral surface of the liver and the cranial surface of the right kidney. It helps to stabilize the position of the liver relative to the kidney and is part of the greater peritoneal structure that supports abdominal organs.
This ligament is typically more prominent in large domestic mammals such as ruminants and horses, and it may be less distinct in small animals like cats and dogs. It is considered part of the coronary ligament for some authors.
