Cavum peritonei [peritonaei]
Definition
The peritoneal cavity is the potential space located between the parietal and visceral layers of the peritoneum. It is found within the abdominal and pelvic cavities of animals and contains a small amount of lubricating serous fluid, which facilitates the movement of abdominal organs against each other.
