Left triangular ligament

Ligamentum triangulare sinistrum

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The left triangular ligament is a peritoneal fold that connects the left lateral lobe of the liver to the left crus of the diaphragm. It is formed by a reflection of the coronary ligament on the left side and helps to suspend the liver in the abdominal cavity. This structure is analogous to the left triangular ligament in human anatomy but can vary slightly among domestic species such as dogs, cats, horses, and ruminants.

The left triangular ligament plays a supportive role in maintaining liver position but does not contain significant vasculature or ducts.
