Definition

Antoine Micheau

The external layer of the sheath of the rectus abdominis is the outermost aponeurotic covering that envelops the rectus abdominis muscle on its ventral (anterior) surface. It is formed by the aponeuroses of the external abdominal oblique muscle, and in some species, it may also receive contributions from the internal abdominal oblique muscle, depending on the region.
