Foramen palatinum majus

Definition

Mayla Alcobaça, Andréa Lopes da Costa

The greater palatine foramen is an oval-shaped, angled (or oblique) opening located at the junction of the palatine process of the maxilla with the palatine bone, and is situated near and medially to the fourth premolar tooth.

The greater palatine artery, veins, nerves, and their branches emerge from it. Caudal to it lies the lesser palatine foramina.
