Incisive duct

Ductus incisivus

Definition

Chloé Paris

The incisive duct is in continuity with the vomeronasal organ. It is sheathed by a cartilaginous tube dependent on the septal prolongation which fills the palatine fissure which is succeeded by a mucous membrane of the buccal type beyond the mouth of the vomeronasal duct. The incisive duct obliquely crosses the palatine fissure to open at the rostral part of the palate, on the side of the incisive papilla. Except in equids where it ends under the mucous membrane of the palate without opening into the oral cavity.
