Musculus occipitohyoideus

Definition

The occipitohyoid muscle (or jugulohyoid or jugulustyloid muscle) is a small rectangular muscle that extends from the paracondylar process of the occipital bone to the cartilaginous tympanohyoid and proximal end of the stylohyoid.

Origin: paracondylar process of the occipital bone

Insertion: stylohyoid

Action: move the stylohyoid bone caudally

Nerve: facial nerve
