Palatine groove
Sulcus palatinus
Definition
The palatine groove of the maxilla is a longitudinal depression on the palatine surface of this bone.
It extends caudally and, together with the palatine groove of the palatine bone, contributes to the formation of the palatine canal. This canal allows the passage of palatine nerves and vessels (originating primarily from the maxillary nerve), which innervate and supply blood to the hard palate and the palatine mucosa.
