Paraterminal gyrus
Gyrus paraterminalis
Definition
The paraterminal gyrus of the rhinencephalon is a small protrusion located on the medial surface of the septal wall of the lateral ventricle. It contains the septal nuclei and receives projections from the medial olfactory tract, amygdala, hippocampus, hypothalamus, and habenula, thereby participating in the circuits of the limbic system.
It is much less distinct in domestic mammals than in humans.
