Sheath of styloid process

Vagina processus styloidei

Definition

On the ventral surface of the temporal bone, the vaginal crest of the styloid process (Vagina processus styloidei) is a thin bony plate belonging to the tympanic part that sheath the styloid process (Processus styloideus), that belongs to the petrous part.

It is well visible in Equidae and Ruminants, and weak or absent in other species.
