Interleaflet triangles of pulmonary trunk

The interleaflet triangles of the pulmonary trunk are triangular-shaped regions of tissue located between the semilunar attachments of adjacent pulmonary valve leaflets, forming part of the pulmonary root complex.

The pulmonary valve has three semilunar leaflets that attach to the pulmonary root in a crown-shaped (coronet-like) configuration. Because the leaflet hinge lines are semilunar rather than planar, the points where two adjacent leaflets meet at their commissures are at the highest level (at the sinotubular junction), while the nadirs of each leaflet's attachment dip inferiorly. Between the semilunar attachment lines of two adjacent leaflets, a triangular area is created the interleaflet triangle. The apex of each triangle points superiorly toward the commissure, and the base is oriented inferiorly.
