Sinus coronarius dexter aortae

  • Latin synonym: Sinus dexter aortae
  • Synonym: Right aortic sinus

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The right coronary aortic sinus (Right sinus of Vasalva) is one of the three aortic sinuses of Valsalva, located in the right anterior aspect of the aortic root, just above the right cusp of the aortic valve. It gives rise to the right coronary artery (RCA), which emerges from the right coronary ostium within this sinus.

The right coronary sinus should not be confused with the term "coronary sinus", which is a venous structure located in the posterior atrioventricular groove. The right coronary sinus is a component of the aortic root and does not have direct venous drainage or a role in the coronary venous system.
