Choanae
Choanae
Definition
The choanae are the paired guttural openings that connect the nasal cavity and the nasopharynx.
Separated from each other by the vomer, their caudal border is formed by the wings of this bone and the body of the presphenoid bone. Laterally, they are delimited by the pterygoid process of the basisphenoid bone and the perpendicular plate of the palatine bone.
