Definition
The osseous nasal aperture is the bony opening from which the nasal cavity begins. It constitutes the facial part of the respiratory system and forms the top of the cranium.
It is bordered by the incisive and nasal bones; its shape varies according to breed and species, being almost circular in brachycephalic breeds and oval in dolichocephalic breeds.
