Middle nasal concha
Concha nasalis media
Definition
The middle nasal concha corresponds to the first endoturbinate volute; being larger than the others, it is called the greater volute.
It progress more or less into the nasal cavity between the dorsal and ventral conchae, thus contributing to the subdivision of the nasal cavity into meatus.
Unlike the other volutes, the middle nasal concha is not completely coiled upon itself but rather has a bullous arrangement. It also possesses a defined cavity, the middle conchal sinus, which opens into the nasal cavity or the maxillary sinus, depending on the species.
