Foramina alveolaria

Definition

On the caudal extremity of the maxilla, within the pterygopalatine fossa, ventrally to the maxillary foramen that leads to the infra-orbital canal, the alveolar foramina (Foramina alveolaria) are small orifices, followed by the alveolar canals (Canales alveolares), that allow vessels and nerves to reach the rear alveolar sockets through the maxilla.
