Nasal surface

Facies nasalis

Definition

The internal or nasal surface (Facies nasalis) of the maxillary bone is much more irregular than the external of facial surface. It contributes to form the lateral wall of the nasal cavity and delegates the strong palatine process at its ventral border.

About halfway up, it is crossed in the longitudinal direction by the conchal crest (Crista conchalis) that gives attach to the ventral concha. This crest separates two excavated areas: one for the ventral meatus of the nose and one for the middle meatus, in which the rostral orifice of the bony nasolacrimal canal (Canalis nasolacrimalis) is located. The orifice that gives access to the maxillary sinus (Sinus maxillaris), a cavity that carves the body of the bone is located at the caudal part of this middle meatus.
