Hypophysial fossa
Fossa hypophysialis
Definition
The hypophysial fossa is a more or less marked depression in the dorsal surface of the body of the basisphenoid bone. It is bounded rostrally by a bony ridge formed at the junction of the presphenoid and basisphenoid bones (known as the tuberculum sellae in humans) and caudally by the dorsum sellae.
The pituitary fossa contains the hypophysis (pituitary gland).
