Pterygoid fovea
Fovea pterygoidea
Definition
The pterygoid fovea is a small, rough surface located at the level of the neck of mandible, at the dorsomedial aspect of the ramus of mandible. It corresponds to the origin of the pterygoideus lateralis muscle.
The pterygoid fovea is relatively large in equines and looks like a small tubercle in cattle.
