Neck of mandible

Collum mandibulae

Definition

The neck of the mandible (Collum mandibullae) is the shrunk part of the mandibular condyle (Processus condylaris) located ventrally to the head of the mandible (Caput mandibulae).

On its medial side, it has a rough surface: the pterygoid fovea(Fovea pterygoidea) more or less clear and extended, meant for the insertion of the lateral pterygoid muscle.
