Teres minor muscle

The minor teres muscle is a round muscle in carnivores and triangular-shaped in the other domestic mammals. It lies deep to the deltoid muscle on the caudolateral aspect of the shoulder. It originates form the distal third of the caudal margin of the scapula and crosses over the flexor side of the shoulder joint to insert on the tuberosity of minor teres muscle.

Origin: Arises by an aponeurosis which lies on the long head of the triceps muscle, from the distal third of the caudal edge of the scapula and primarily from the infraglenoid tubercle.

Insertion: Greater tubercle of the humerus just above the deltoid tuberosity.

Action: Flexion of the shoulder joint.

Nerve: Axillaris.
