Extensor digitorum communis tendon
Tendo musculi extensoris communis digitorum
- Acronym: EDC
- Related terms: Extensor digitorum - Tendon
Definition
The tendon of extensor digitorum communis (EDC) trifurcates at the proximal phalanx to form a central slip and two flanking lateral slips. Central slip inserts on the base of the middle phalanx. Two lateral slips join with two lateral bands (formed by interossei and lumbrical tendons) to form conjoint lateral bands in the region of the proximal interphalangeal joint. Conjoint lateral bands continue distally and merge to form a single conjoint terminal extensor tendon (TET) that inserts onto the base of the distal phalanx.
