Right ventricular apex

Apex ventriculi dextri

  • Synonym: Apex of right ventricle; RV apex

Definition

Antoine Micheau

The right ventricular apex is defined as the most distal, trabeculated portion of the right ventricle, forming the tip of the right ventricular cavity. Anatomically, it is part of the trabeculated apical myocardium, which is one of the three major components of the right ventricle—the inlet, the trabeculated apex, and the infundibulum (outflow tract).

The right ventricular apex is typically thin-walled and heavily trabeculated, distinguishing it from the smoother-walled outflow tract.
