Sulcus nervus canalis pterygoidei

Definition

At the limit between the body and the wing os the basisphenoid bone, on the ventral or exocranial surface of the skull, the groove for the nerve of the pterygoid canal (Sulcus nervi canalis pterygoidei) leads to the base of the pterygoid process and its thin longitudinal pterygoid canal (Canalis pterygoideus) that allows small nerves* to reach the orbit.

*In Men, the great petrosal nerve and the deep petrosal nerve.
