The horizontal plate of the palatine bone is a thin, horizontal bony plate forming the caudal part of the hard palate.

It forms the floor of the nasal cavity and the roof of the oral cavity in its posterior portion. The right and left horizontal plates unite at the median palatine suture and articulate rostrally with the palatine process of the maxilla.
