Fossa piriformis

Definition

The piriform fossa (Fossa piriformis) is the lateral part of the middle cerebral fossa (Fossa cranii media) that corresponds to the piriform cerebral lobe.

N.B.:The piriform lobe corresponds to the rostral half of the uncus, which is the rostral extremity of the parahippocampal gyrus; receiving its major afferents from the olfactory bulb.
