Interparietal process

Processus interparietalis

Definition

Andréa Lopes da Costa

The interparietal process is a median and dorsal bony extension of the squamous part of the occipital bone, extending between the parietal bones.

Morphologically, it corresponds to the portion of the occipital bone resulting from interparietal ossification, and can be considered the fused equivalent of the interparietal bone when the latter is no longer individualized. The interparietal process thus participates in the formation of the caudal cranial vault and the closure of the cranial cavity.
