Intermediate hypothalamic region [Tuberal hypothalamic region]

Regio hypothalamica intermedia [tuberalis]

Definition

Juliette Garnodier

The intermediate hypothalamic region is the middle portion of the hypothalamus, located at the level of the tuber cinereum.

It contains the infundibular nucleus, the dorsomedial hypothalamic nucleus, the ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus, as well as the lateral hypothalamic region, which includes the lateral tuber nuclei and the tuberomammillary nucleus. These nuclei are involved in the regulation of appetite, hormonal secretion via the tuberohypophyseal tract, and communication with the caudal hypothalamic region and the neurohypophysis for endocrine and homeostatic control.
