Subarcuate fossa

Fossa subarcuata

  • Synonym: Floccular fossa

Definition

The subarcuate fossa is a deep depression dorsal to the internal acoustic opening, that is well developed in carnivores and rabbit.

The difference with the term « cerebellar fossa » is not clear, and varying between authors (Structure labeled as « cerebellar fossa » in the Miller and « subarcuate fossa » in the Barone). If compared to human the term subarcuate fossa should be more adapted, because the term cerebellar fossa is used of the occipital bone.
