Crest of petrous part

Crista partis petrosae

Definition

The crest of the petrous part (Crista partis petrosae) separates the rostral -or cerebral- and medial -or cerebellar- surfaces of the petrous part. By connecting to similar protrusions on the neighboring bones, it participates to the constitution of the cerebro-cerebellar crest or spheno-occipital crest (Crista sphenooccipitalis): a more or less curved relief that gives attachment to the cerebellum tent and separates more deeply the cerebellar and cerebral parts of the middle cranial cavity.
