Nerve: major scutuloauricularis profundi: auriculopalpebral nerve / minor scutuloauricularis profundi: caudal auricular nerve

Action: both turn the intertragic notch caudally

Description:

The scutuloauriculares profundi muscles are short, thick, fleshy bands, extending from the ventral surface of the scutiform cartilage to the eminentia conchae. They are largely hidden by the scutiform cartilage.

The major scutuloauricularis profundi muscle, which is stronger and longer, extends from the rostral part of the deep surface of the scutiform cartilage to the caudal surface of the eminentia conchae.

The minor scutuloauricularis profundi muscle crosses the dorsal surface of the major scutuloauricularis profundi muscle in a X shape. It extends from the caudal part of the deep surface of the scutiform cartilage to join the base of the auricle, rostrally to the major scutuloauricularis profundi muscle.
