Femoral lamina

Lamina femoralis

Definition

The thight is enveloped by a complete fibrous sheath, that is continued in the leg by the crural fascia. We name the whole sheath the fascia lata. Its lateral part is the real fascia lata and its medial part, attached to the inguinal arch, is called femoral fascia or femoral lamina (Lamina femoralis).

These two parts, despite being perfectly continuous,  do not differ only by their situation. The regular fascia lata, always solid, receives the terminal attach of its tensor muscle. Its proximal limit is not precise, because it is continued without demarcation on the surface or the gluteal region, by the gluteal fascia (Fascia glutea), that unites to the superficial gluteal muscle, but its proximal limit is thanks to its attach on the inguinal arch.
