Gluteofemoralis muscle - Origin

The origin of the gluteofemoral muscle varies depending on the species, and can be located on the first caudal vertebrae, the median sacral crest, the dorsal sacroiliac ligaments, and/or the sacrotuberous ligament.

Variations:

• In equines, the origin is mainly on the median sacral crest, on the dorsal sacroiliac ligaments, and on part of the sacrotuberous ligament; origins on the caudal vertebrae become accessory.
