Anatomy Atlas of Feline Osteology

Anatomy Atlas of Feline Osteology

Anatomy Atlas of Feline Osteology

Introduction

This vet-Anatomy module features illustrations dedicated to the anatomy of bones, including some articulations present in cats. These labeled anatomical illustrations are compiled into an illustrated atlas covering the entire skeletal system of the cat. The purpose of this atlas is to support students and practicing veterinarians in understanding the anatomical structures of the skeletal system.

Material and methods

A total of 163 original medical illustrations were created, depicting the bones of the head, vertebral column, thorax, thoracic limb (sometimes called forelimb), and pelvic limb (sometimes called hindlimb). Selected joints are also represented, such as the shoulder, the elbow, the knee and the pelvis.

It should be noted that the specimens used for these illustrations lacked hemal arches. Consequently, these structures are not depicted in this module, although they are occasionally described in veterinary anatomy texts.

The illustrations were produced by Anne-Sophie Emeric and Andréa Lopes da Costa (scientific illustrators), under the anatomical and scientific supervision of Antoine Micheau, MD and Denis Hoa, MD (Radiologists - Montpellier, France).

All anatomical structures were labeled in accordance with the Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria (Sixth Edition – 2017 by the International Committee on Veterinary Gross Anatomical Nomenclature - ICVGAN) and grouped into differents topics as follows:
